Rushanara Ali MP statement following security threat against East London Mosque

The security threat against the East London Mosque in my constituency is deeply concerning and highlights the growing escalation in hostilities and threats against British Muslims since 7th October and the outbreak of war in Gaza. I am grateful to the police for their immediate response and support.

For many years, we have made the case for increased support from the government to protect faith based institutions. While some provisions have been made, this has been inadequate. The government must step up action to protect mosques and other faith and community organisations that are currently facing increased hostility.

I will be meeting with Home Office Ministers next week to seek urgent support for mosques and other faith based organisations in my constituency and beyond.

I condemn anyone who seeks to sow divisions in our community and country by using the conflict in Gaza to channel their hate towards our community and members of other faith communities.
