During Education Questions, Rushanara questioned the Minister on school re-openings. She said that families have been put in the difficult position of having to choose between survival and education as the Government’s rushed through plans to re-open schools failed to provide the assurances that parents, teachers and pupils needed.
Rushanara also questioned the Government on Free School Meals, which you can view below.
2.4 million children have faced food insecurity since lockdown began. While the free school meals U-turn is welcome, it is not enough. The Government must take urgent action to tackle the root causes of child poverty, by scrapping harmful policies such as the two-child limit, and addressing high housing costs that condemn families to poverty. We need a new post-Covid settlement to protect all those who need our help.
