Rushanara Ali MPs statement on Asylum seekers left to ‘sleep on street’ in Whitechapel.

"These scenes of asylum seekers being dumped by the Home Secretary and her department in unsuitable accommodation with some reportedly having to sleep outside, are inhumane and unacceptable..."

Rushanara Ali MP said: “These scenes of asylum seekers being dumped by the Home Secretary and her department in unsuitable accommodation with some reportedly having to sleep outside, are inhumane and unacceptable. For weeks, I have sought clarification from the Home Office about reported plans to place large numbers of asylum seekers in one location in my constituency. I highlighted local concerns from agencies about the need to ensure this is appropriately and properly planned, but received very little information. Today, I wrote to the Home Office once again asking them to get a grip on this appalling situation of its own making. I have also reached out to Tower Hamlets Council for support to those who have been placed in inadequate accommodation. It is completely unacceptable that the Home Secretary has failed to fix the asylum system. She and her department are taking little care or responsibility to ensure asylum seekers are appropriately accommodated, leaving some destitute, and leaving our local community and local agencies to pick up the pieces with little support or information from national government.”
