Rushanara Ali MP visits local foodbank

Rushanara Ali MP  visited the Bow Foodbank’s site at Bethnal Green earlier this week to meet and chat with some of the foodbank clients and to meet the staff and volunteers.

Rushanara said: “I was delighted to visit Bow Foodbank to meet the fantastic staff and volunteers providing a vital lifeline to families struggling this Christmas. This time of year can be particularly hard on low-income households with budgets coming under immense pressure. Foodbanks should not exist in modern Britain but the support Bow Foodbank offers represents the best of our community.”

Christina Ball, Executive Director of Bow Foodbank commented: “It was a pleasure having Rushanara spend some time with us today to learn more about how we work.  It’s fantastic to have the support of so many people from the local community, including our incredible volunteers and those who donate to us, as well as those who support the charity in many different ways.  Without the community, the foodbank simply would not exist.”

Demand for the foodbank remains high, with around 250-300 visitors at Bethnal Green and 350 at Bow each week, all local people and families with almost 1,000 children benefiting from the much-needed food aid every week.
