Rushanara Ali MP celebrates women cyclists at the Fieldgate Bike Project awards in Whitechapel

Rushanara Ali, Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow, today joined female cyclists at the Fieldgate Bike Project awards, hosted at the Jagonari Centre in Whitechapel.

Rushanara joined the Fieldgate Bike Project to celebrate the great successes of the three-month project in engaging women of all ages on the Fieldgate Mansions estate and the surrounding area in cycling. The project offers positive alternatives to women; encouraging safe cycling as well as promoting healthy lifestyles.

Rushanara Ali said:

“It is vital that women in Tower Hamlets have the opportunity to improve their health and get fit and the Fieldgate Bike Project is a great example of that.  It is great to see the pride and independence the women have gained from this valuable project.

The Fieldgate Bike Project helps break down barriers between neighbours and also addresses the generation gap, which is vital at a time when older women in our community suffer from loneliness and isolation. I wish the Fieldgate Bike Project every success in the future."
