Local MP Rushanara Ali is calling on the Conservative-led Government to take urgent action to create jobs in the East End, following the news that both long-term unemployment and long-term youth unemployment increased in Bethnal Green and Bow over the course of 2012.

Rushanara Ali MP has condemned a serious homophobic incident which took place in Whitechapel. Responding to a video of the incident, filmed in her constituency, Rushanara said: “This kind of intolerance and intimidation has absolutely no place in modern Britain, and absolutely no place in our capital city.”

Rushanara Ali MP has praised the work of NHS maternity staff during a recent visit to the maternity unit at the Royal London Hospital.

MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, Rushanara Ali, attended the Half Moon Theatre’s reopening activities and arts ceremony following its 4-month closure for major refurbishment works. The project was endorsed by Dame Helen Mirren and supported by a number of organisations.

Last week, Bethnal Green and Bow MP, Rushanara Ali, joined local residents to celebrate the work the Jagonari Centre has been providing to generations of women, families and children since its creation 25 years ago. To mark its 25th anniversary, the Jagonari Centre celebrated its achievements by showcasing its long history of making a difference to individuals, families and communities.

Speaking in an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons, Rushanara Ali MP has raised concerns about the Mayor of London’s reported plans to close Bow and Whitechapel fire stations as part of a £65 million cut the London fire services budget.

Rushanara Ali MP has welcomed the High Court ruling which will enable existing students at London Metropolitan University with full immigration status to continue their studies at the university.

MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, Rushanara Ali, attended Stepney City Farms’ launch of The Barn and Rural Arts Centre - opening up gallery space for temporary exhibitions and educational opportunities for the wider community. Crossrail provided the Barn and Rural Arts Centre as compensation for the land from the Farm.

Bethnal Green and Bow MP, Rushanara Ali today co-hosted a parliamentary reception to celebrate the work of London's Air Ambulance service where she met the doctors and paramedics from the service.  The reception followed a debate earlier this week on VAT on air ambulance fuel payments.
