A video has circulated online of an incident between a Youth Support Worker and Tower Hamlets police, outside Arbour Youth Centre.

On Sunday 9 October Rushanara Ali MP marked the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street by speaking at two events organised by local community groups including Cable Street 80, and an event organised by the London Jewish Forum and the Jewish Leadership Council.

Detailed proposals for changes to parliamentary constituencies have been announced. The plans are part of reforms which would see the House of Commons reduce from 650 MPs to 600. A public consultation is now under way and final proposals will not be made until 2018.

On 31 July Rushanara joined Mayor John Biggs, local Councillors and thousands of Tower Hamlets residents in Weavers Fields for the Boishakhi Mela 2016. The Mela is a celebration of Bangla New Year, and is now the largest Bengali festival outside Bangladesh, attracting over 100,000 people from all over the country.

On 5 July 2016, the Labour Party offices in Bethnal Green were vandalised. 

In the fifth day of debate on the Queen's Speech in the House of Commons MPs debated aspects of the speech relating to education, skills and training. The Prime Minister claimed the Queen’s Speech has bold reforms to remove all barriers to opportunity for our young people by measures such as the new Education for All Bill and the new Universities Bill. Today, young people are suffering from what the Equality and Human Rights Commission says are “the worst economic prospects for several generations”.

Rushanara Ali MP spoke in a debate in the Chamber to raise her concerns about changes to a new national funding formula for schools. She asked the Minister to confirm if these proposals would mean a £260 million pound cut to schools in London.  

Altab Ali Day is a commemoration of the death of Altab Ali who was murdered on 4 May 1978 by three racist teenagers as he walked home from work. The reaction among the Tower Hamlets community and across London played a key part in the defeat of the National Front in the late 1970s.

Rushanara Ali MP is supporting the introduction of an Air Quality Bill presented by Geraint Davies, Labour Co-operative MP for Swansea West. This Bill follows a report from the Royal Colleges that recently found diesel fumes cause 40,000 premature deaths every year from lung cancer, strokes and heart disease.

London’s Air Ambulance held a press launch at the Royal London Hospital to celebrate the addition of a second helicopter to the service. The London Air Ambulance team treated almost 2000 critically injured patients on the streets of London in 2015. The introduction of a second helicopter will mean London Air Ambulance can reach up to a further 400 patients by air each year.
