On 3rd June 2017, an attack took place in the Southwark district of London, England, when a van mounted the pavement of London Bridge and was driven into pedestrians. Eight people were killed and 48 were injured, including four unarmed police officers who attempted to stop the assailants.

On 22nd May 2017 a terrorist attack took place at the Manchester Arena. Twenty-three adults and children were killed and 250 were injured, 59 taken to hospital, and 23 classified as critically injured.

Rushanara Ali MP's Statement on Ofsted report on Child Social Care in Tower Hamlets

On Friday 7th April, the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) published its report on children’s social care in Tower Hamlets. The report found that “there are widespread and serious failures in the services provided to children who need help and protection in Tower Hamlets. As a result, too many children remain in situations of actual or potential harm for too long.” Ofsted, therefore, gave the service an overall rating of “inadequate”.

On 21st February, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. Established by UNESCO in 1999 as a day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, it is needed more than ever. With 7,097 known living languages, according to UNESCO, there are 2.3 billion people who lack access to education in their own languages.
