On this day in 1936 the Jewish community of East London and its allies blocked the streets in order to prevent Oswald Mosley and his British Union of Fascists marching through in what became known as the Battle for Cable Street.

On 3rd June 2017, an attack took place in the Southwark district of London, England, when a van mounted the pavement of London Bridge and was driven into pedestrians. Eight people were killed and 48 were injured, including four unarmed police officers who attempted to stop the assailants.

On 3rd March, Rushanara Ali, visited the Whitechapel section of the Crossrail development. Given a tour of the tunnel, eastbound and west bound platforms and renovation of original entrance by Crossrail’s Chief Executive, Andrew Wolstenholme OBE, this was Rushanara’s second trip to the site, following an initial visit in November 2013.

Rushanara Ali MP delivers 20,000-strong petition to 10 Downing Street to stop GP Surgeries from closing down across London

Rushanara Ali, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, and campaigners from the ‘Save Our Surgeries’ campaign handed in a 20,000-strong petition to 10 Downing Street today. The campaign was set up by GPs and patients in response to Government plans to phase out funding known as the 'minimum practice income guarantee' (MPIG) for GP surgeries across the UK.
