Rushanara Ali MP urged the Prime Minister to show courage and international leadership in bringing the escalating violence in Gaza to an end.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took the streets on Saturday 19 July in response to the recent escalation of violence between Israel and Gaza. More than 700 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed and 30 Israelis killed since Israel began Operation Protective Edge. Over 100,000 people have been displaced in Gaza. Last Sunday, the deadliest day of the conflict, cost the lives of more than 100 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers.

At a House of Commons statement on Gaza, Rushanara Ali MP spoke out against the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, bringing attention to the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Reports have suggested some 127 Palestinians have been killed with hundreds of others injured since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. The recent escalation of violence began almost a week ago and was triggered by the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank and the murder of a Palestinian teenager in East Jerusalem.

This judgement grants an interim injunction that will safeguard remittances being sent to millions of Somalis and Africans through the Money Transfer Operator (MTO) Dahabshiil based in Rushanara Ali’s constituency.
