The Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow, Rushanara Ali has called on the Government to rescind the offer of a State Visit to American President Donald Trump. Following the President’s Executive Order for a travel ban from seven-majority Muslim countries and a litany of misogynistic and racist comments, Rushanara called on the Prime Minster to protect the reputation of the Queen and offer the President a government-to-government visit rather than a State Visit.

"Sir John Chilcot’s report into the decisions taken leading up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 stands as one of the most comprehensive ever conducted. I hope Chilcot also enables this generation of political leaders, and future generations, to avoid ever making the same mistakes again.

Last month the Guardian obtained a leaked copy of a report by a UN Panel of Experts which found evidence of Saudi Arabia targeting civilians in Yemen in violation of international humanitarian law in the course of their military operations. The crisis in Yemen is having a devastating effect on the whole country and as matters currently stand, an astonishing 82% of the population needs humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia, a key military presence in the region have totaled about £7 billion pounds since David Cameron took office in 2010.

On 2 December 2015 MPs voted in the Commons on whether the UK should join US-led coalition air strikes against so-called Islamic State militants in Syria.

Rushanara Ali MP urged the Prime Minister to show courage and international leadership in bringing the escalating violence in Gaza to an end.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took the streets on Saturday 19 July in response to the recent escalation of violence between Israel and Gaza. More than 700 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed and 30 Israelis killed since Israel began Operation Protective Edge. Over 100,000 people have been displaced in Gaza. Last Sunday, the deadliest day of the conflict, cost the lives of more than 100 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers.

At a House of Commons statement on Gaza, Rushanara Ali MP spoke out against the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, bringing attention to the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Reports have suggested some 127 Palestinians have been killed with hundreds of others injured since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. The recent escalation of violence began almost a week ago and was triggered by the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank and the murder of a Palestinian teenager in East Jerusalem.

Rushanara Ali MP has urged the UK Government to show leadership and courage at the UN General Assembly when it votes on a resolution granting ‘non-member observer state’ status to the Palestine Authority.

Following the news that Prime Minister David Cameron is considering diverting money from the UK's aid budget to defence-related projects, Rushanara Ali MP, Shadow Minister for International Development, spoke out in Parliament.
