Rushanara Ali MP called on the government to ensure that young people who receive help from the National Citizens Service will be able to continue their progress in ambitious plans for a new mentoring scheme, during the second reading of the National Citizens Service Bill.

Brexit must not mean exit for Britain’s banks. That was the message to the Prime Minister this week from Rushanara Ali MP. Many major banks are threatening to relocate their British headquarters from Canary Wharf and the City of London to Dublin, Frankfurt or Madrid following the referendum to leave the EU. Some may move as soon as 2017. The head of the British Bankers’ Association has warned that as many as 70,000 jobs are at risk.

Rushanara Ali MP today vowed to continue fighting for childcare for single parents to enable them to get back into work, after an amendment tabled by her and Labour colleagues was defeated at Committee stage of the Government’s Welfare Reform and Work Bill.
