Bethnal Green and Bow's Labour MP has given her support to the former shadow justice minister Sadiq Khan’s bid to become the party’s candidate for Mayor of London.

In the 2015 General Election, Rushanara Ali was re-elected as Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. 

Rushanara Ali welcomed the launch of Labour’s 2015 General Election manifesto, describing the Labour vision as “credible and aspirational” for both the country and the residents of Bethnal Green and Bow.

Rushanara Ali officially launched her campaign for re-election in Bethnal Green and Bow at a local event attended by a host of fellow Labour colleagues, members and supporters, with former Labour leader Lord Kinnock giving the keynote address.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March, Rushanara Ali MP last night marked the occasion by hosting a large public event alongside Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Harriet Harman MP. 

Rushanara Ali MP voted yesterday in support of a plan to provide for the long-term future of cycling in Britain.  The measure marks a long-term funding commitment to increase walking and cycling rates in the UK, as well as forcing the Government to commit to a sustainable strategy for the future of Britain’s 3 million cyclists.

Rushanara Ali MP cross-examined banking chiefs on claims that disproportionate numbers of customers, money transfer businesses, Muslim charities and other organisations were being denied access to basic banking facilities.

Rushanara Ali MP and Jim Fitzpatrick MP have this week launched a campaign to secure a fair deal for leaseholders in Tower Hamlets.

Rushanara Ali MP for Bethnal Green and Bow and Jim Fitzpatrick MP for Poplar and Limehouse, have written a joint letter to the Corporate Director of Education, Social Care and Wellbeing at Tower Hamlets Council, Robert McCulloch Graham, calling on the council to reverse the decision to cut essential funds for four nurseries in Tower Hamlets.

Rushanara Ali, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, and campaigners from the ‘Save Our Surgeries’ campaign handed in a 20,000-strong petition to 10 Downing Street today. The campaign was set up by GPs and patients in response to Government plans to phase out funding known as the 'minimum practice income guarantee' (MPIG) for GP surgeries across the UK.
