Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day, a day to remember the millions of people who were murdered in the Holocaust by the Nazis. We also remember all those who have been killed in subsequent genocides.
Rushanara was asked by the Speaker of the House of Commons to lay a rose in Parliament to commemorate all those killed in the Rwanda genocide.
Rushanara Ali MP said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for us all to remember those who were murdered in genocides and those who continue to live in fear of it. Today, ethnic cleansing and genocide is being used as a policy tool by some governments. It is vital that the international community works to prevent genocide and ensure never again genuinely means never again.”
