Following reports from Reuters news agency that attacks on Hindu communities and Hindu temples in Bangladesh has led to at least six deaths and several injuries, Rushanara Ali MP said:
“I am deeply concerned of reports of violence against Hindu communities in Bangladesh. It is critical that minority rights are protected in Bangladesh, including of Hindu communities, who make up 10% of Bangladesh’s population.
The violence must stop urgently and I echo the comments of the UN’s resident coordinator in Bangladesh, Mia Seppo, who stated: ‘We call upon Government to ensure protection of minorities and an impartial probe’.
Going forward, it is imperative that those who have perpetrated these crimes are brought to justice.”
