I am devastated to hear of the extreme flooding in northeastern Bangladesh that has left over two million people stranded. The monsoon rain has damaged homes, schools, community health clinics, and farmland.
My thoughts are with all those who are suffering from the flooding in Sylhet. I know many of my constituents, as well as myself, will be concerned for family who have been affected.
I will continue to advocate for greater aid for people in Bangladesh, and encourage all those who can to donate to the charities providing vital support for those affected.
Bangladesh is one of the most exposed countries to climate change in the world. Intense monsoons and rising sea levels mean millions of people in Bangladesh have to live with the constant threat of flooding and displacement.
We must do more, both here in the UK and working with other countries, to tackle climate change and mitigate its impacts on vulnerable countries like Bangladesh.
