The murder of George Floyd while being restrained by a white police officer in Minneapolis has sparked widespread outrage and protests in the US and across the globe. 

Rushanara Ali MP said:

“George Floyd’s murder has rightly ignited fury and outrage across the globe. I stand in solidarity with his family, friends and community, and their fight for justice. 

We cannot be complacent about this racist attack, and the wider effects this has on our society. 

The Government has a moral obligation to call out racism and discrimination - wherever that may be, their silence on this matter is unacceptable. The UK Government’s failure to condemn this act of discriminatory state violence and Trump’s inflammatory response is shameful.

To build a better society we must stand together against racism and injustice."
