Rushanara Ali MPs statement on the 47th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Victory Day

Marking the 47th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence on December 16th, Bethnal Green and Bow MP, Rushanara Ali paid her respects to those who sacrificed their lives to secure the freedom and independence of Bangladesh.

Rushanara Ali said:

“On Bangladesh Victory Day, we remember the three million people who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom. On this important day, we pay our respects to their memory and recognise the great sacrifice they made.

As a proud British Bangladeshi, I believe we are forever indebted to those who fought for Bangladesh's independence

Bangladesh has made significant progress since then but continues to face major challenges around poverty and climate change. We must work together, to tackle the threat of climate change, promote economic prosperity, tackle poverty and boost social development."
