On 13 March Rushanara Ali MP was interviewed on Channel 4 on the devastating death of Sarah Everard, the wider issue of violence and abuse against women, and her own experience of harassment.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Sarah Everard’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Her tragic death has prompted a wider debate over women’s safety. Violence against women and girls is far too common and action needs to be taken to address this.
The Government should drop its rushed and poorly considered Police Bill. This Bill not only restricts people’s right to protest but misses a huge opportunity to tackle violence against women and girls. I and the Labour Party will be voting against it."
