Thousands of leaseholders across Tower Hamlets have been sent bills for as much as £40,000 for works to their properties which Tower Hamlets Homes – the Arms Length Management Organisation responsible for the properties – has insisted are paid within twelve months. For huge numbers of residents, these bills are simply unmanageable in such a short space of time.
Rushanara Ali MP and Jim Fitzpatrick MP have launched a campaign urging Tower Hamlets Homes and the Council to secure a new deal for leaseholders. The campaign has three main demands of Tower Hamlets Homes and Tower Hamlets Council.
-
Extend the current repayment period for major works from 12 months to 10 years
-
Provide greater transparency on charges and proposed future works
-
Adopt a pro-active approach when engaging, consulting and responding to leaseholders
