    Dear Rushana,
I saw a clip on social media recently of Jacob Rees Mogg addressing the House of Commons. He was roundly criticising the practice of “Fire and Rehire” which is spreading across industry.
A couple of days later, in his address to the GMB Annual Conference, Kier Starmer also condemned the practice.
You will be aware that Mr Biggs, the local Mayor, has been at loggerheads these past months with the LBTH workforce as he has been trying to impose Fire and Rehire on them. Having worked through the pandemic I think they deserve a bonus: not a cut in terms and conditions.
I’m sure you will agree that this situation is an embarrassment all round; a Labour Party mayor forcing through a policy which is opposed by his party leader, the wider trade union movement and even senior tory MPs.
I’m sure you would be doing a huge favour to everyone in the borough if you had a word with Mr. Biggs and asked him to drop this policy.
    Yours sincerely,
    Robert Andrews.

Can you please ask the Council not to implement the cuts to the ESN budget as this is a vulnerable group which needs all the help it can get? Im sure that you will agree that Tower Hamlets, as befits a central London Borough should be a beacon in its service to vulnerable groups.
    Thanking you,

I believe there is a debate on 23rd November 2020 regarding opening of leisure centres . I believe the leisures should stay open whenever there are lockdowns . They are essential for mental ad physical health .

    Dear Ms Ali

I am a constituent who owns a flat at Omega Works, 4, Roach Road, E32PF.

It has now been over three years since the horrific events at Grenfell Tower that claimed the lives of 72 innocent people. Dame Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations & Fire Safety, and the ongoing Grenfell Inquiry have made it clear that there has been a disastrous decline in building safety over recent decades, meaning much of our building stock is unsafe. This includes:

    - A system-wide regulatory failure: Weak regulations allowed builders to self-certify that our homes were constructed safely. Despite repeated warnings, including by the Coroner of the Lakanal House fire, where six lives were tragically lost in 2009, the regulations remained unchanged until after the Grenfell Tower fire.
    - This created a culture of indifference in the sector and a race to the bottom: With no effective oversight, developers & builders were allowed to game the weak system, and cut important safety corners, all in the name of profit, leading to a wide range of safety issues at our homes, the remedial costs of which we are now being forced to fund.
    - Lobbying interests and product manufacturers: Special interests were able to successfully change building advice and weaken regulations, leading to cladding materials known to be unsafe, being used on our buildings

I find myself trapped in this cladding scandal, which is only a small part of the fire safety issues affecting our homes, due to the endemic building safety crisis. There is currently no effective strategy to resolve this, and inadequate funding, which is laying the burden of fixing this systemic failure, not of our making, directly at our door.

    My building has
    1. Unsafe cladding:
[ACM/HPL/Timber/Render/Insulation/Other/Mixed], for which I do not know yet the cost to remove
    - My building is in process to apply for the Building Safety fund but I have concerns that this fund is not enough to cover the 2,784 buildings which have applied

    2. Other fire safety defects including missing fire breaks
    - My building has missing or inadequate internal and external fire breaks not linked to a cladding system which is not covered by funding. As demonstrated by the terrible fire at Richmond House in September 2019, this issue means fire could spread easily in my building. We will not be able to start works to remove unsafe cladding until we can raise the money to address this.

3 – My building has timber balconies/means of escape which is not covered by funding. As demonstrated by the terrible fire at the Samuel Garside block in Barking, in June 2019, these issues are a major cause of the rapid spread of fire..

    4. Trapped by EWS1
    - My building is unable to get an EWS1 survey, and now I am unable to sell my flat. I am now trapped until remediation work is completed which could take years.

The total cost for me is estimated to be in the thousands. I have only been in the flat for two years and am particularly upset as I did my due diligence checks when I bought my home and none of these issues are my fault.

Please call on Rishi Sunak to:

    1. Increase the speed at which funding is made available to remediate buildings. Since the launch of the ACM fund for private blocks in May 2019, only 9 of the 98 buildings have completed remediation or had their ACM removed. As recently as the 22nd June 2020, Ferrier Point a 23 storey block in Newham had a fire. Luckily this building had its unsafe cladding removed last winter. It is deeply concerning that the next fire could be on a building awaiting, or ruled out of, Government funding.
    2. Increase the amount of funding which is available. The Select Committee report estimates that £15 billion will be required to fix the issues with high rise and high risk buildings . The funding must include other fire safety defects and costs for interim measures such as waking watch.

More than three years on from the tragedy at Grenfell, hundreds of thousands of us are suffering through no fault of our own. We urge you to support your constituents and look forward to your swift action in this matter.

    Yours sincerely,
    Berinda Banks

Dear Rushanara Ali, I feel very upset that you are not willing to help individual cases for your borough. I say this in confidence because i have been contacting you constantly for over half a year but i have not got 1 direct call response from you. Please can you focus on the few not the many, as a labour voter i am appalled of the low level of service given.

    Dear Rushanara Ali,
I’m writing to you as a concerned resident of Clarion Housing at Old Ford Estate on Ford Street. Yesterday, our beautiful, healthy and safe large 30ft trees were yesterday savagely pollarded. No-one was notified it was going to happen, we had all assumed that it was just a prune as they had done along Old Ford Road. I managed to partially save the one outside my home and one other – but 2 were completely lost. The contractor openly admitted to me that there was no reason to cut these like this but he understood the reasons why was because 1 resident asked for it to be cut down.
This has dramatically altered the landscape and if I had not saved my tree and one other there would be no green foliage it would just be the brown monotone landscape of the surrounding buildings. Over CV19 that green space had started to be used again rather than just being a dog pooh hotspot. Birds have come back and there has been such a change in the community. To have such beautiful trees has been good for the soul during these challenging times of being at home 24/7. We are devastated and I’d like to know if there are any repercussions that we can lay against Clarion, and how to protect others from the same fate. They are still here cutting more!
As a leaseholder, who will eventually pay for this I was not consulted. I understand that the fact of no consultation with residents itself is illegal because it’s the rules for HA’s to consult when there is a spend of over £250!
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Dear Ms Ali,

I refer to tomorrow’s commemoration of the sacrifice of their lives by the fallen in the ranks of the NHS. This is too soon. The war is not over. Even a cigar smoking, boozing old fart would have noted ‘it is not even the end of the beginning’.

I ask of you to best use your offices to report this concern that we need to steady ourselves for a long fight and only once the day has been won should we pause and offer a testament to their sacrifice that is not driven by a populist fashion but by open sincerity and our truest gratitude.

And what next? How do we publicly recognise those NHS staff and volunteers who fall in the days, weeks and months to come? There is surely the danger that the respect for the work of all the NHS workers will ultimately be blurred.

Some Robert Frost vision needed here.

    Kind regards
    Colum McGinley

Hi Diane, yes, you’re on the contact site and I don’t know why our MP hasn’t been in touch with you.

I’ve found these contact details for her: 0207 219 7200 , [email protected]
I guess you’ve already found this but, just in case the British Nationals help webpage for Goa is:

Also, if a newspaper might be able to help publicise your case and other people in a similar position, it might be worth sending an email to [email protected] or one of the nationals . If you’re happy to share an email address in this forum, maybe that will provide an easier way for anyone reading these posts to contact you.

Dear Rafiq Alam, I completely agree with you. Policing the park to make sure that people are not using it to congregate in groups is one thing but closing it and preventing people using it for exercise is, just as you said, a reaction based on panic, not logic.

I am not happy about the decision to close Victoria park and I think those that made the decision has done so in a panicky state.
We should be in sound mind making such a big decision.
The decision is unfair & unwise ,not smart and led by fear.

Covid 19. We are told the onset of summer will help. If so, why not try to bring summer closer? This could be done by bringing the change to summer time forward as much as possible – even if the planned change is only two weeks away. This could be complemented by shortening the working week and so bringing more daylight into lives. This would give people the chance to exercise more in the evening – walking home and so on. Bring the summer forward. Please.

DWP has given me so much trouble financially, due to their lack of skills. They gave me so much misinformation and no response to my complaints. Rushanara Ali has also contacted them about my matter but they still have not responded and it’s now been over 4 months since my complaint! I do not have anymore options and i feel very upset that this secretary of state of work and pensions is treating me like this.
