Celebrities share urgent message about coronavirus for the British Asian communities

Following reports of the disproportionate impact coronavirus has on BAME communities, a group of prominent British-Asian celebrities have created a health advice video targeting the Asian community.

Adil Ray, Actor & Broadcaster and one of the organisers of the video said "We all felt that we had to do something during these unprecedented times. It is evident that some of the advice and messages are not getting to some communities when they need it most. We hope that we can make even just a small difference."

A report by the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre on the first 3,883 critically ill coronavirus patients found that more than a third were non-white (33.6 per cent). BAME groups form just 18 per cent of the UK population.

The health advice given in the video was developed in conjunction with Public Health England advice and Dr Sam Everington, Chair of Tower Hamlets CCG.

Rushanara Ali MP said:

"We know that the official government guidance isn't reaching some communities. I'm very grateful to all the British-Asian celebrities involved in producing this health advice film targeting the Asian community.

Coronavirus is disproportionately affecting BAME communities, so it's vital we reach them."
