In the 2015 General Election, Rushanara Ali was re-elected as Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow.
Rushanara's message to her supporters was:
Thank you so much for your support over recent weeks and months. It is an honour to be re-elected and I cannot thank the people of Bethnal Green and Bow enough for making that happen.
So many of you have contributed your time, energy, ideas and support which led to us gaining 61% of the share of the vote – and doubling the majority of 2010 when Bethnal Green and Bow was a Labour gain from George Galloway's Respect Party.
Across the country, it was a very difficult night for Labour. Many wonderful colleagues lost their seats and many candidates who worked so hard with Labour members and activists were not elected. Their voices must be heard as we reflect on our defeat, so that we can properly rebuild to win across the country in 2020.
Now more than ever, though, it is vital that we provide hope and optimism to people worried about their families, communities and their future. That's why I'm so proud that people across the East End joined together to vote for a society based on values of fairness, opportunity for all, and for social justice.
Now more than ever, in the face of a Conservative Government, we need to stay united for a stronger East End.
With heartfelt thanks for your support,
Rushanara
P.S. We a have Tower Hamlets Borough Mayoral election and a local Council by-election in Stepney Green Ward on 11th June 2015. If you are a Tower Hamlets resident, please don't forget to vote for our Labour Mayoral candidate, John Biggs, and our Labour Councillor candidate in Stepney Green Ward, Sabina Akhtar.
