Rushanara Ali's Statement on the Terrorist Attack outside Finsbury Park Mosque

On 19 June 2017 there was a horrific terrorist attack outside Finsbury Park Mosque injuring at least ten people.

Rushanara Ali said:

"I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the horrific terrorist attack targeting innocent worshippers outside Finsbury Park Mosque in the early hours of this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and their families. This is a cowardly attack, which targeted innocent people going about their lives in the holy month of Ramadan.

I strongly condemn this vile attack targeting the Muslim community and as a Muslim myself, I urge people to come together to stand united against this cowardly attack, and all forms of extremism that seek to divide our communities.

I would like to thank our emergency services and the police for their tireless work in responding to this horrific attack and the other terrorist attacks which have taken place in recent weeks in London and Manchester.

I urge the Government to take immediate action. Security must be increased for Mosques, as well as other faith based institutions, who at this time will be very concerned for their security and safety as well as that of their congregations".
