Rushanara Ali MP statement on new sanctions on Burmese Military

The UK Government has announced new sanctions targeting companies supplying aviation fuel, arms and aircraft parts to the Burmese military, after similar sanctions were announced in the US this month. Following the announcement, Rushanara Ali MP said:

“I welcome the news of new sanctions on companies supplying aviation fuel, arms and aircraft parts to the Burmese military after a long campaign from the Burma Campaign, civil society organisations and NGOs, alongside Parliamentarians, for the introduction of such sanctions. The Burmese military continue to act with impunity and these sanctions are the right policy. We must continue to put pressure on the British Government to introduce further sanctions on the Burmese military to stop their access to aviation fuel, and to implement these sanctions quickly.”
