Rushanara Ali MP called on the Prime Minister to lead the international community in the domestic and international fight against extremism, as well as urging him to conduct an inquiry into how best to ensure that families, schools, mosques, internet companies and agencies are better guided to protect young from radicalisation and extremism.
Reacting to the murder of 38 people in Tunisia, amongst them an expected 30 British nationals, Rushanara said:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. This appalling act of terror against defenceless holiday-makers highlights the need for us to fight extremism both at home and abroad.
“The terrorists seek to drive a wedge between the majority of Muslims, who defiantly reject what they represent, and everyone else. We must all work harder to make sure they do not succeed.
“What steps will the PM take to ensure any international response includes action to help stabilise and rebuild post-conflict states such as Libya and prevent them continuing to be a breeding ground for violent extremism? Will he now reconsider my call for an inquiry made earlier this year?”
