Anniversary of the Battle for Cable Street

Today we commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. 82 years have passed since thousands of East Londoners stood together against fascism and intolerance.

We must celebrate those individuals who stood up in the face of adversity, and ensure that we continue to stand against the racism, islamophobia, anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance that continue across our society.

Over the last few years we’ve witnessed a concerning rise in hate crime, stemming from the divisive EU referendum. We must reverse this trend and continue the fight against intolerance, to protect all of our different communities.
